Joe has this dream about a red headed Christ, who comes down and plays cards with the men who have been condemned to die. the Biblical Christ was not perfect, he was man. This new Christ in the book wasn't perfect either, both showed instances where they were less than perfect. The new-Christ is again shown as being not perfect when he fails to grant Joe the mercy he so desperately wants. We will have to see what happens later in the book.

Good Blog. You did however leave out the part when the men think Joe doesn't belong there because he will not die. That is important because all of the men at that table were visited by Christ because they will die.
In the book the sixteen year old boy was Christ. He talked to men who were going off to war about if they would face death or not. Before the men boarded the train, they played cards. Joe played with them but was an outcast because, he wasn't going to die at war. Joe felt lonely once he realized that.
Good blog Owen!
I know exactly what you're saying about the mercy kill, that's essentially what i wrote about. mucho gusto
